The Roman Society is delighted to invite applications for grants to facilitate activities in Roman archaeology, specifically: projects, events, and initiatives that promote aspects of Roman archaeology, skills-based training, and public engagement. Preference will be shown to skills which are currently in decline or especially needed in the discipline. Please note that this grant is not for people to attend courses organised by someone else. Also, from time to time, the Archaeology Committee has a small amount of ad hoc funds available to donate to worthy causes supporting Roman Archaeology in Britain.

Awards are typically £500 or less, but there is the potential for larger awards should a compelling case be made.

The event/activity for which funding is sought is to take place a minimum of two and maximum of 12 months from the submission deadline. For ad hod funds to worthy causes, this requirement is waived.

The applications can be submitted three times a year with deadlines of 1 February, 1 May, and 1 October. The applicants should be informed of the outcome within a month of the deadline date. In exceptional circumstances, please contact Dr Ivleva at the email address above if funds are required urgently.

Where an attendance fee is payable, it is expected that events receiving awards would offer a special rate to Roman Society members.

When timings permit it is also requested that a short piece of text (fewer than 300 words) is supplied to promote the event in Epistula, the Society's digital newsletter.
