Guided Visit to Brading Roman Villa, Isle of Wight

The Roman villa at Brading on the Isle of Wight dates from the first century AD. The museum preserves the West Range, built around AD300, which is the last and grandest of three buildings on the site. The foundations of two earlier North and South Ranges are now outlined in chalk outside. The South Range was erected around AD 100, not long after the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 43 and was followed by the completion of the North Range around AD 200. The discovery of the site dates from 1880 when the Medusa mosaic was found. The visit will include a guided tour of the site.  There is a café on-site so members can either buy lunch there, or bring a packed lunch. Transport will be provided between Ryde Pier Head and the Villa. We will meet the 12.15pm ferry and return in time for the 16.47 ferry.
