Private guided tour for the Roman and Hellenic Societies
Tuesday 10th October 2017, 6.30-8.30pm
Leighton House Museum
12 Holland Park Road
London W14 8LZ
The first major exhibition in London since 1913 devoted to Alma-Tadema’s career, this show is displayed throughout the magical studio-house of the artist’s friend, Frederic Lord Leighton. His vision of antiquity fixed ideas in the popular imagination of what life in the Greek and Roman world ‘looked like’—ideas and images that were translated to the stage and to films such as Ben Hurand Gladiator. Important pieces from private collections are on display, including ‘In My Studio’, as well as works by his accomplished wife, Laura, and daughter, Anna. Over a quarter of a million visitors have seen this exhibition in Holland and Vienna, so this is an opportunity not to be missed.
A glass of wine will be served before the guided tours begin.
The exhibition catalogue will be available for sale at a reduced price.
Only 40 places are available.
